Amara's love for dance began at an early age. She was introduced to bellydancing in 2002 and immediately fell in love. She is known
for her expressive style and using the music to tell a story through her dance. She enjoys dancing to all types of music but prefers dancing improv to live music. Her style is American Orientale. She often dances with props such as veil, sword, and Wings of Isis.
She began dancing for fitness, but soon realized how empowering it was. She has studied with many local instructors and currently
studies with Shahzaadee, troupe director of Colorful Waves Bellydance Troupe.
She also attends various workshops as a way to improve her skills. Her passion and love for the artform is seen through her dance. She has performed at many
local events including haflas, private parties, weddings, restaurants, the Raleigh Drum Circle, the NC Renaissance Faire, NBC 17 Health and Fitness Fair, Durham's Centerfest,
Cary Spring Daze, and the Apex Peak Festival.
She performs as a soloist and is also a current member of the Colorful Waves Bellydance Troupe .
She currently teaches private lessons at her studio in the Cary/Apex area. Amara is a member of ACCMED
(Association of Central Carolina Middle Eastern Dancers) which is a local organization promoting professional bellydance performers.
Amara often performs live accompanied by her drummer, Andrew. He also records and produces a variety of sounds including drums, flute and didgeridoo to bass guitar, synthesizer and drum machine. He is currently a member of the "Lost Nomads", a Cary based Middle Eastern band.
